He enjoyed going to Adventure Play at Camp Acorn, where kids used their imagination to create and explore. In addition, the Social Learning approach worked wonders for Jorge and his whole family. With the help of Parish’s teaching staff, Jorge learned to speak fluently. “We are especially grateful to his speech therapists and teachers-Jorge always felt safe with them, and we could sense that they truly loved him,” said parents Jorge and Lore. The day camp program provides camp experiences for siblings of our students, ages 2-12, who do not require intervention for special learning needs and who fall within the typical developmental ranges for their age. Incredible things are learned in a classroom, but information can become personal and applied through play. The curriculum, teaching strategies and expectations are age and individually appropriate, as well as socially and culturally appropriate. Both language and academic goals are targeted within the natural day-to-day classroom activities. Language intervention to address receptive language, expressive language, and/or pragmatic language is provided by speech-language pathologists and teaching staff in a classroom setting.

Our adult-to-child ratio is also very low. We offer small class sizes with a maximum of 10 children in a class and eight children or less in our youngest levels. The Parish School’s 4-week summer language program offers classroom-based language therapy for children between the ages of 2 and 12 who have communication delays and/or learning differences, and average to above average abilities.
